St. Margaret of Castello: A saint for people with disabilities

St. Margaret of Castello (1287-1320) is the patron saint of the poor and anyone dealing with a disability or physical challenge. She also is venerated as one of the patron saints of the pro-life movement. Pope Francis declared her a saint through equipollent canonization on April 24, 2021. Her feast day is April 13.

Purpose of St. Margaret's Ministry

A. Provide religious education to children with special needs.
B. Provide community events for disabled adults.
C. Provide prayer opportunities for the disabled and their families.
D. Provide assistance to disabled adults when attending Mass.
E. Provide assistance to members of our parish who have disabled family members.
F. Make Sacred Heart Church and Parish Center more accessible to people with disabilities.

Adaptive Faith Formation

St. Margaret’s Ministry is offering Adaptive Finding God which is a Family Faith Formation program for children with disabilities ages 6-10. This will be offered in conjunction with Sacred Heart’s Family Faith Formation program. It is open to all parishioners in the Diocese of Des Moines. The program will be led by Mary Ludwig, a certified special education teacher at Sacred Heart School. For more information on this program, contact Mary at: [email protected]

Sacramental Preparation for individuals with disabilities in 2-12 grade is done on an individual basis. Please contact Mary at [email protected] for more information.
Bible Study for Adults with Disabilities

Bible Study for Adults with Disabilities Sacred Heart Parish is starting a new Bible Study for adults with disabilities. This program will involve learning about the Bible through music, activities and prayer. This special class is open to all adults in our diocese with intellectual and physical disabilities ages 18 and above.
